Clare Gates graduated from Charing Cross and Westminster Medical School in 1988 and trained as a physician obtaining the MRCP diploma before switching to psychiatry in the early 1990’s. She completed her higher specialist training in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at on the St George’s Medical School training scheme, obtaining her CCST in 2000. Until recently she has been employed as a substantive consultant at Surrey and Borders partnership NHS Trust where she has been responsible for establishing a specialist Eating Disorders Outpatient service for teenagers and a service to support children in long-term foster and adoptive placements. In parallel with her specialist work she has extensive experience in general Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. In 2008 she founded Outset Infant Mental Health, a not for profit company which promotes high quality interventions in the early years. She has recently resigned from her NHS post in order to focus on her work with Outset and to develop her private practice.
