Dr Loughlin is currently involved in NHS research projects funded through the National Institute of Health Research. His main areas of research interest are Mild Cognitive Impairment and new treatments to diagnose and treat dementias.

Dr Loughlin was appointed in August 2001 as an NHS Consultant Psychiatrist and is based at Heatherwood Hospital, Ascot.

After training posts in A&E and Medicine, Dr Loughlin completed three years of Basic Psychiatry Training through the St Mary’s Hospital Training Scheme in 1997. Training was in General Adult Psychiatry and Old Age Psychiatry and included time training in Forensic Psychiatry. Four years of Higher Psychiatry Training was completed in 2001 through the Oxford Region Higher Training Scheme. A Certificate of Completion of Specialist Training in General Adult & Old Age Psychiatry was awarded in 2001.
