Bishops Lodge is old; some of it dates back to the 1600s when Oakley Green was little more than a pastoral clearing in the middle of the forest of Windsor.
Our history goes back further, John le Bishoppe farmed and hunted here in the 1200s. Whether his name was simply an inherited patronym (a family name derived from the name of your father or a paternal ancestor) or he was a self-appointed hermit cleric is not clear.
We thought we would name the rooms after the Bishops of Windsor, but there is no diocese of Windsor. We decided instead on Vicars of Bray, seeing that we are in the Parish.
Cardinal Clinic opened in October 1976 and we continue to provide the highest level of psychiatric care.
